Obituary of Emilio Melendez
WATERTOWN – Emilio Melendez “Poppie”, 94, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2019 at Samaritan Medical Center.
He had been a resident at Samaritan Summit Village for several years.
Emilio was born on April 5, 1924 in Puerto Rico, the son of Claudio and Rosa (Maria) Melendez. He graduated from high school in 1950 and went on to work as a laborer for the United States Army.
On August 30, 1944 he married Alicia Santana in Puerto Rico.
He will be remembered as a friendly, fun-loving person who was very generous and loved giving back to others. He was an animal person who loved his pets very much. He also enjoyed listening to music and watching movies.
He was a former member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Carthage.
He is survived by a son, Emilio A. (Ruth) Melendez of Evans Mills as well as two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Ann.
A graveside service will be held in the Spring at St. James Cemetery.
