Obituary of Joan L. Barron
WATERTOWN – Joan L. (Garnsey) Barron, 82, of 272 Weldon Drive, died on Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Hospice of Jefferson County Residence, where she had been a resident for several weeks.
Joan was born on October 13, 1935 in Clayton, New York, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Doris (Dano) Garnsey. She attended Watertown High School. She was employed as Counter Service of Gibson’s Laundry, before going onto work for Bomax Manufacturing in small electronics assembly. She then worked at Mercy Hospital in the Housekeeping and Special Surgical Laundry Department, before going onto work at Samaritan Medical Center until her retirement.
A marriage to John Barron ended in divorce.
Joan enjoyed all needle crafts including crochet, knitting and sewing. She was often a seamstress to many of those in need of an alteration. She also loved to bake for everyone and was well-known for her delicious peanut butter cups.
Joan is survived by two sons, Ronald and his wife Inga Kerns of Cleveland, NY and Robert and his wife Darcy Slate of Saugerties, NY; as well as six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Per the family’s request, no public services will be held.
