Obituary of Betty Stiles
GREAT BEND – Betty Louise Stiles, 87, passed away peacefully Friday evening, September 28, 2018 at home, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.
Betty Lou was born on July 5, 1931 in Potsdam to Leroy and Ruth (Harper) Manford. She graduated from Heuvelton Central School and went on to attend the Central City Business Institute for Secretarial. She worked as a secretary for Sterlings in Ogdensburg.
Betty married her childhood sweetheart Paul G. Stiles on June 21, 1952. She was primarily a homemaker after having children.
She enjoyed garage sales and reading. She was a long-time member of the Woolworth Memorial United Methodist Church and was active in the choir.
She is survived by four children, Kim Stiles, Shelley (Randall) Stevens, Christopher Stiles and Brent Stiles. Her oldest daughter Denise (Michael) Streeter, died in May 2015 She is also survived by two brothers, James and Jerry Manford, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Paul who died on February 7, 2017 as well as a sister, Mona Flack and a brother, Gary Manford.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 4:00-5:30 PM at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. A Memorial Service will be held at Woolworth Memorial United Methodist Church, behind the Stefanos in Great Bend at 6:00 PM on Monday, following the calling hours. All are welcome to a Celebration of Life reception at the Carthage American Legion Post 789 after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Woolworth Memorial United Methodist Church, Great Bend.
