Obituary of Donna K. Staie

CHAMPION – Donna Kay Staie, 80, formerly of Co. Rte 47, died on Saturday night, November 24, 2018 at the Hospice Residence of Jefferson County, where she had been a resident since September. 

Donna was born on March 31, 1938 in West Carthage, NY, a daughter of the late Victor O. and Dorothy J. (Beadle) LeRoux.  She attended Augustinian Academy in Carthage, NY before going on to work as a Nurses Assistant at Mercy Hospital in Watertown. 

She also worked at Woolworth Department Store in Carthage, where she met her husband Joseph who was also employed there.  On September 9, 1955 the two were married at St. James Catholic Church in Carthage.  For the remainder of her life she was primarily a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, crocheting and gardening.

Mrs Staie is survived by her children; Jeanne (Thomas) Intorcia of Natural Bridge; Timothy Staie of Ogdensburg; Frederick Staie of Champion; Peggy (David) Mitchell of Norfolk; and Joseph Staie. Also surviving are three sisters, Shirley Waloren of Fulton; Patricia McCreery of Lafargeville; and Judy Zembiec of Yuba City, CA; three sisters-in-law, June LeRoux of Carthage; Mary Delles of Evans Mills; and Susanne Bush of Croghan; as well as 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild who is due in May of 2019, and several nieces and nephews.    

Donna was predeceased by her husband, Joseph who died on October 26, 2016; a daughter, Sharon Staie, who died on August 15, 2016; a brother, Victor LeRoux who died in November of 2017; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Hall.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Natural Bridge Community Center at a later date.
