Obituary of Irene J. Becker

CARTHAGE – Irene J. Becker, formerly of 222 State St., passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning, May 11, 2019 at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility in Lowville.

Irene was born on May 10, 1931 in Carthage, New York, daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Kaiser) Halase.  In 1948, she graduated from Augustian Academy and went on to attend the Watertown School of Commerce.  She was employed with the W.T. Grant Company in the early 50s and worked as an assemblist for Bomax Manufacturing from 1970 to 1980. 

On October 1, 1954 Irene married Gilbert J. Becker at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church.  Gilbert passed away on November 23, 1994.

She is survived by four children, Anthony (Sandy) Becker of Virginia; Sue (Neil) Patchin of Dewitt, Iowa; Debbie Becker of Watertown; and Lori (Mike) Peterson of Florida; as well as seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 

She is predeceased by a son, Robert Becker who died in February of 1973. 

Irene was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 7227.  She enjoyed reading. 

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 from 11-2 PM.  A funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 PM with The Rev. Canon Samuel P. Lundy officiating.  Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Carthage.
