Obituary of Elwyn L. Bell Jr.

HARRISVILLE – Elwyn L. Bell Jr., 63, formally of State Route 812, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Carthage Area Hospital.

Elwyn was born on July 31, 1955 in Gouverneur, NY, a son to the late Elwyn L. and Barbara J. (Thayer) Bell Sr. Elwyn attended school in Gouvernuer, NY. He went on to become a foremen for a loading dock company in Florida. In 1982, he became disabled due to injuries sustained in an accident.

He loved to hunt, fish and go four wheeling. He had a passion for hobby farms and raising animals. He was also a groundskeeper for the Fullerville Church. Elwyn had also began to hold youth bible study groups after the passing of his mother.

Elwyn is survived by his children, James Bell, Rose, NY; Caryn (Joseph) Smith, Richville, NY; Lee Bell, FL.; six siblings, Holly Bell, Connecticut; Jennifer (John) Wagar, Watertown, NY; Arthur (Carmella) Bell, Theresa, NY; Herbert Bell, Theresa, NY; Lucinda Bell, Boonville, NY; Linda (Jim) Whitney, Gouvernuer, NY; five grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his “Dad” John Backus Jr.; his mother, Barbara Backus; two brothers, David V. Bell and Donny Backus.

A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at 2 PM at Fullerville Community Church, 1373 Co Rd 24, Gouverneur, NY 13642. A burial will take place at a later date.
