Dad, you gave us a great inheritance: a commitment to Christ, to Mom, to your children, to your country, and to your work. An imperfect man purified by his faith and a shining example to those who loved and knew you. I am glad God put it into our heart to care for you. Thanks for the memories....Roger and Sandra

Sisters,
What a story in your life! I smile every time I remember my dad, even though he was a teaser and imperfect person - like me.
I bet you will and probably heard added stories of good memories.
Bob and I were out of town and are sorry to be just catching up. He remembers meeting Clarence often in the barber shop on State St, never silently. :)
I remember being at the trailer with Susan and other gals for Stonecroft Bible studies. He stayed in the back room until we finished and then had stories, family photos, the marvelous jewel tree. We could have done another 90 minutes, but of Benware study! :)
Blessings to each of you and the extended family.
Marsha and Bob Hasseler

What our family lost on November 16, 2019, Heaven gained. Grandpa was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He was never ashamed of the Gospel and told everyone he met the Good News. He was a WWII veteran and loved his country to the very end. Grandpa told us for years, "His bags were packed." That was his way of telling us he was ready to meet Jesus.
I still remember riding home with him from the funeral of his mom, when I was young. You could tell he was sad, but in true Grandpa fashion, he didn't let it show. He talked to me and told me things about the town he grew up in as we drove through it.
Anytime our family would travel to Black River to see them for the weekend, Grandma and Grandpa always let me sleep on a cot at the end of their bed. He made me feel special.
Grandpa was a carpenter and he worked at Fort Drum for a long time. We used to go visit him at work, and as he introduced me, he would tell them I was going to be the first woman president. (Later in life, I am pretty sure he was happy I stayed out of politics.)
He wasn't afraid of a microphone. In fact, sometimes, he didn't even need one. He would stand up and talk without one. As a child, I was embarrassed of this. Now, as an adult, I admire it. He was always one of the first to stand up for Praise and Testimony time...it didn't matter what church he was at.
Grandpa and Grandma escaped to Florida every winter from upstate NY. I was able to go down several years in a row with one of my brothers. They never hesitated to make it the best vacation for us. NASA, Disney, the beach, Ron Jon's Surf Shop, and the list could go on.
After making a decision to go to Word of Life Bible Institute once I graduated from high school, I knew telling Grandpa would be a high-point for me. He was so excited. He went from telling everyone I was going to be the first woman president, to telling everyone I was going to Word of Life. The crazy part, he was just as proud.
He single-handedly built our shed when we lived in Virginia at the age of 80. I wish I could have brought it with me when we moved.
I am thankful for the legacy he left behind, for all of the lives he touched in his 94 years on this earth, and for the deep love he had for the Lord.
I am blessed to have called him, Grandpa.

Dear Penny, Sandra, Brenda, and the rest of the family: Please accept my condolences. I know you will miss him. Wow, Clarence has seen and talked to Jesus and has been reunited with his beloved Marge and Susan. I can't imagine the joy he is experiencing right now. I was there in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Black River the night he was born again. It was a joyous occasion for all of us when he stepped forward, walked to the front of the sanctuary, and confessed Jesus as his Savior and Lord. He decided to follow Jesus that evening and he never turned back. The gospel found fertile and receptive soil when it entered his heart. His love for God’s word and his commitment to sharing the gospel with the lost were an inspiration to all who knew him. He gave us all a shining example of what it means to be faithful—to his country, spouse, children, friends, and, most importantly of all, the Lord Jesus Christ.

My “Pop” Dad. Years ago I posted a living memory of my Dad, because at that time, I wanted to pay honor to him, while he was alive. That is the time to show love, thoughts and affections! While still alive!
Dad was the most generous man I knew and know! He was faithful loyal devoted to Mom and his daughters. He NEVER disparaged or spoke negatively about any of us.
I must have been 3 or 4 yrs old when I wanted to marry him!
He treated everyone who came to be friends and many acquaintances for dinners, for years and years. He was faithful in supporting several missionaries and Dad was not wealthy financially, but because of his giving, I believe he always had enough and more, to take care of us and Mom and Susan, until yesterday.
I believe all his family can attest to his happy spirit, most of his life after receiving Jesus Christ as Lord of his life.
Pop really enjoyed my playing piano and at one time playing in church for him when he was the “worship leader.” I love my Dad and will think on all the wonderful things about him. Also, besides Pop being politically active, he was also involved in the Carthage Central School’s Taxpayers Assocation.
He cared. Thank you for the opportunity to share these very few thoughts and memories. Brenda Joyce Benware Yeary
