CARTHAGE – Earl "Hank" Barnhart, 87, formerly of the Texas Rd. and Meadowbrook Terrace, died early Saturday morning, November 26, 2016 at the Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville, NY, where he had been a resident for a short time.
Born in Ontario, Canada on April 27, 1929, the son of William E. & Hazel Mitchell Barnhart. His family moved to the United States when he was a young boy; he attended Carhtage Augustinian Academy. He was a paratrooper in the United States Army, serving with the 82nd Airborne Division, before returning home and operating his farm on the Texas Rd. He also was employed for many years at Carthage Papermakers, until his retirement at age 65. He married Virginia M. Slate in Newton Falls in 1956. Mrs. Barnhat died in 2005.
He was very proud of his tractors; he enjoyed farming, spending time with his family and he was especially fond of pie.
He is survived by his children and their spouses; Sally & Roger Haines, Carthage, Stephanie & Shaun Crawford, Carthage, Cyril "Sid" & Bonnie Barnhart, Ticonderoga and Richard & Tammy Barnhart, Carthage. Also surviving is his companion, Barbara Delles, his sister in law, Betty Barnhart, 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, several cousins in Canada, as well as his beloved donkey, "Mooch".
He is predeceased by his wife, Virginia, and his siblings; Dean Barnhart, Claire Barnhart, Dorine Koster and Doris Camidge.
There will be no public visitaion or funeral service for Mr. Barnhart. Memorial donations may be made to Meadowbrook Terrace, 21957 Cole Rd., Carthage, NY 13619. Arrangements are being handled by the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.
