PHILADELPHIA - Herbert George Caskinette, 89, 31518 Town Line Rd., died on Wednesday morning, June 7, 2017 at the Hospice House of Jefferson County in Watertown, surrounded by his family.
Born on January 15, 1928 in St. Regis Falls to George & Roseanna Bean Caskinette. He attended school in St. Regis Falls. He served in the United States Army from 1946-1947, where he was stationed in Hawaii.
He married Lorraine Mosher in 1950 at the Hopkinton Catholic Church. Lorraine died in 1983.
As a young man, he delivered furniture in Syracuse and was very proud of his time spent working on the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway. He worked for the Town of Hopkinton, performing such duties as general labor, maintenance and snow removal. He then worked for the New York Air Brake in Watertown, before becoming disabled and retiring in 1968.
He was a talented musician; he played guitar for many events, such and weddings and anniversary parties around the area and was a regular performer at the Countryside Inn, in St. Lawrence County. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and boating.
He is survived by his daughter, Connie Chamberlain, Philadelphia, a son, Richard "Rick" Caskinette, Redwood, 9-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, along with his favorite dogs; Harley, Hank "Bocephus" and Rylee.
He is predeceased by two siblings, Edna Winkler and Maureen Richards.
A private graveside service will be held at the Sanford Corners Cemetery in Calcium. Arrangements are being handled by the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.
