Obituary of Betty J. Bigelow
NATURAL BRIDGE- Betty J. Bigelow, 82, of Old State Road, died on Sunday evening, August 20, 2017 at home, under the loving care of her family.
Betty was born at home in Natural Bridge on October 2, 1934, a daughter of the late John William and Irene Evans Baker. She attended Carthage Central School. In June of 1952, Betty married William Babcock, JR. who died in January 1967. She married Daniel Bigelow in July of 1968 in Lowell, Massachusetts. She was employed as a cook for various local restaurants including the Natural Bridge Café, Elmer’s Diner, and Country Kitchen. She enjoyed bingo, gambling at the casino, cooking, sewing, and most of all, caring for her beloved children and grandchildren.
She is survived by eight children, Penny Buker of Natural Bridge; Julie (Bart) Gill of Natural Bridge; Jean Gorham of Natural Bridge; Jody (Fred) Daniels of Natural Bridge; Danny Jr. (Paula) Bigelow of Natural Bridge; Danielle (David) Pavey of Natural Bridge; Lori Neddo of Natural Bridge; Troy Bigelow of Natural Bridge; a sister, Barbara Minezzi of Massachusetts; a brother, Ronald Baker of Oklahoma; 28 Grandchildren; 41 Great-Grandchildren; and 8 Great-Great-Grandchildren. She is predeceased by her first husband William Babcock on January 26, 1967; her second husband, Daniel, who died on January 22, 2008; her oldest daughter, Yvonne Simmons Harmon; a son, Jeffery Babcock; and a brother, William Baker.
There will be a Celebration of Life gathering on Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 12-4PM at the Natural Bridge Community Center. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery at a later date. Donations may be made to Lewis County General Hospital Certified Home Health Agency, 7785 N. State Street, Lowville, NY 13367.
