Obituary of Robert S. Henry

COPENHAGEN – Robert "Bob" Sage Henry, 90, died on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at home, under the loving care of his family and Lewis County Hospice. Robert was born on July 22, 1927 in Copenhagen, New York, a son of the late Brayton W. and Ellen S. Sage Henry. He was educated at Copenhagen Central School. In 1945, he was drafted into the United States Army. He was stationed in Newenburg, Germany during the Newenburg War Trials. Robert was honorably discharged as a P.F.C. Military Police Officer in 1949. On May 6, 1950, he married Lucretia (Keta) Livingston, daughter of the late Clinton and Florence Livingston, at the Emmanual Church in Watertown, New York. Mr. Henry was employed at the New York Airbrake Dynapower in Watertown for 45.5 years, and held a manager position for 33 years. He retired in 1989. Bob was a very active member of the Copenhagen Fire Department since 1948. He was past chief and president, and active in the Firematics Drill Team. He helped work on the interior of the present fire hall when built in 1978-1979. Robert was also past Noble Grand of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge in Copenhagen. Robert's father, the late Brayton Henry was an active 50 year member of the Copenhagen Fire Department. Robert also has two sons, Jim and Lynn, and four grandchildren who also are very active in the fire department. He is survived by two sons, James and his wife Teri; Lynn and his wife Lisa, all of Copenhagen; a daughter, Mary and her husband Eric Shambo of Copenhagen; step-daughter, Martha and her husband Patrick McCarthy and their son Sean of Cape Vincent; step-son Alfred (Pudge) and his wife Kelly Conway of Lake Placid; a sister, Jean Henry of Copenhagen; six grandchildren, William, Nicole, Shane, Tyler, Robbie Henry and Zachary Shambo; step-grandchildren, Brittany Crouse and Cody Golden; and seven great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife, Lucretia, who passed away on May 2, 2003; a son, Donald, who passed in 1988; and a grandson, Donnie, who passed in 2006. Also pre-deceasing him is a daughter-in-law, Linda Henry. He is also pre-deceased by two brothers, John and Charles Henry. Bob enjoyed camping, water-skiing, traveling, and family gatherings. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 10-1 PM at the Copenhagen Fire Hall, 9950 State Route 12, Copenhagen NY 13626. A Funeral Service including Military Honors will immediately follow at 1:00 PM at the fire hall with The Rev. Canon Samuel P. Lundy officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Copenhagen.
