Obituary of Sharon R. Gibbs

WATERTOWN – Sharon R. Gibbs, 74, died on Thursday, February 1, 2017 at Samaritan Medical Center, after being a resident of Samaritan Keep Home for the past several years.

Sharon was born on June 25, 1943 in Great Bend, a daughter of the late Vernon and Mildred (Fuller) Finely.  She graduated in 1961 from Carthage Central High School.  After school, she married Calvin Burr and moved to North Carolina for seven years.  The marriage ended in divorce in 1973.  She and her three children then moved back to the Carthage/Great Bend area where she worked at the NCO Club on Fort Drum as a cashier/waitress, retiring in 1999.  On July 4, 1992 she married Dayton Gibbs at the Great Bend Methodist Church.

She enjoys bingo, karaoke, cards, bowling and crosswords.  She was always busy doing something and enjoyed having her family at the nursing home to join in on the fun.  She always had a smile on her face.

Sharon is survived by her beloved husband, Dayton of Carthage; three children, Cindy (John) Marcotte of Rhode Island; Calvin Burr of Qatar; Jeff (Whitney) Burr of Watertown; two stepdaughters, Tammy (Michael) Arnold of Harrisville; Lori (Randy) Turck of Castorland; a sister, Cathy (Patrick) Caffrey of Carthage; Donny Howard of Natural Bridge; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; as well as several nieces. 

Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018 from 1-3 PM at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.  A funeral service will immediately follow at 3 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Bill Johnson officiating.  Spring burial will be held in Brookside Cemetery, Watertown.
