Obituary of Patricia Joyce Schermerhorn

CARTHAGE - Patricia Joyce Schermerhorn, 82, passed away surrounded by family at Centers Health Care in Carthage on February 7, 2018.

 

Patricia was born a Valentine’s baby to James and Lilac (Tillie) Newman in Carthage, NY.  She graduated from Carthage High School and married Ernest John Schermerhorn on April 27, 1952.  She worked several jobs in the community and operated Ernie’s Cycle Shop (1967-1983) and Schermerhorn Deer Farm with her husband and family.  After her husband’s death in 2006, Patricia moved to Brooksville, FL with her sister Yvonne where they enjoyed traveling, casinos and many new friends in their community.  In 2016, she returned home to spend more time with her family.  Pat liked to watch westerns, sing along to music and play bingo.  Friendly competition would also occur while watching her “programs”; Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.  She had a fondness for sweets, traveling and crocheting gifts for friends and family.

 

Patricia was one of eight children.  She is survived by two sisters and two brothers: Yvonne Pettit of Brooksville, FL, Barbara (Harry) Gotham of Carthage, Rocky (Carole) Newman of Carthage, and Randy (Cheryl) Newman of Natural Bridge.  Her parents, three brothers (Gerald, Fred and Gary), a sister in-law, Leah, a brother in-law, Kenneth, and a great granddaughter all passed before her.

 

Pat and Ernie have 3 children: Wayne (Linda) Schermerhorn of Natural Bridge, NY, Tamara (Thomas) Buckley of Brooksville, FL and Natural Bridge, NY  and Lori Favri(and companion, Tim Gonseth) of Calcium, NY.  She is survived by 7 grandchildren; Anthony (Danielle) Schermerhorn, Angela Schermerhorn and friend Alan Herbert, Timothy (Ashley) Buckley, Adrienne (Jason) Hancock, Kyle Sanders and fiancée Penny, Skyler Favri and fiancé Steve, Kohl Favri, 15 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in her memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Central New York; 441 West Kirkpatrick Street, Syracuse NY 13204-1361.

 

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at from 4-6 PM at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.  A funeral service will immediately follow at 6 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel.   A gathering will be held after the service at the Carthage VFW Post #2590.  Food donations are greatly appreciated.
