CARTHAGE-Albert (Al) Pike, 86, of 89 Bridge Street, died on Monday, March 9, 2015 in the Skilled Nursing Unit at the Carthage Area Hospital. He was born on February 27, 1929 in Carthage, New York to Frank and Maria (Condino) Pike. He attended the Augustinian Academy. He served in the United States Air force during the Korean War. He was a superintendent at the National Guard Armory, Carthage; where he retired after many years of dedicated service. He waited many years to find the love of his life, Virginia Sacchetta. They got married on February 4, 1967 at the St. James Catholic Church in Carthage. She went to heaven on December 14, 1984. He is survived by his two loving and devoted sons, Albert and his wife April Rothfuss Pike, Carthage; Joseph Pike and his companion Mollie Tobias, Redwood City, CA; a brother James Pike and his wife Lucille, Carthage; sister-in-law Laura Picco, N. Carolina; brother-in-law Francis K. Oakes, Pennsylvania; a granddaughter, Danielle Ames, Watertown and a great-grandson, Jayden Hernandez, Watertown and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by several siblings, Andrew, Josephine, Angie, Augustine, Lewis, Rose, and Rosie. He was a 60 year lifelong member of the Bassett- Baxter American Legion Post #789 in Carthage, where he served as commander numerous times. He was also a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Carthage. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus, past grand knight and the VFW (Veterans Of Foreign Wars) both in Carthage. He was state known for his fast-pitch softball no-glove pitching and he was a past league bowler for the Elks. Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 from 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM with a Legion Service at 7:30PM at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., located at 500 State Street in Carthage. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 11:00AM at the St. James Catholic Church with The Reverend George F. Maroun, officiating. A military service will be held in the spring in the St. James Catholic Cemetery.
