Obituary of Edna M Miller

DEER RIVER- Edna M. Miller, 88, of 3986 Deer River Road, died on Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Carthage Area Hospital where she had been a patient for a few days. She was born on July 7, 1926 at home in Carthage to the late Ervin J., & Anna J. Shettleton Dekin. Edna attended Indian River School and the Carthage Augustinian Academy. She married Alfred L. Miller in 1945 with the Reverend Howard Griswold officiating. Mr. Miller died on April 16, 1990. Mrs. Miller was primarily a homemaker, as well as the custodian of the Deer River Elementary School until it closed, and the clerk for the Deer River General Store. Edna is survived by four children, Mary (Dave) Jones, Deer River; Joyce Miller, Deer River; Lyle (Tamara) Miller, Carthage; Alfreda "Bridget" (Douglas) McLane, Deer River; and a daughter in law, Nancy Miller, Watertown; two brothers in law, Wilmer Lamey, Alabama and Kenneth Gallup, Black River and a sister in law, Dorothy Dekin, Carthage. Mrs. Miller is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 2-great-great grandchildren. Edna is predeceased by her parents, Ervin and Anna, her husband, Alfred, and her son, Ervin, who died on January 4, 1994 and seven siblings, Albert, Lyle, Ervin, Rosemary Lamey, Donald, Vera Gallup, and Robert. Mrs. Miller was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church of Deer River. She always kept herself busy sewing, knitting,quilting, crocheting, gardening and she loved to cook. Calling Hours will be held on Monday, May 18, 2015 from 4-7 PM at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., located at 500 State Street in Carthage, New York. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 1 PM in the Chapel of the Funeral Home with The Reverend Tom Sherwood officiating.
