DEFERIET, NY — Stephen Joseph Marek, 63, of 35381 NYS Route 3, Deferiet, died at home on Saturday morning, Jan. 23, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. Born Feb. 2, 1952, in Ogdensburg, the son of Fred & Mary Bergeron Marek, he served in the United States Army for a short time. He married Cheryl Gokey in November 1971. Mrs. Marek died Jan. 27, 1997. He worked for many years as an electrician for Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 673 in Black River. He loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing and gardening is where he felt at home. Surviving are his parents, Fred and Mary Marek; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Amanda Marek, Natural Bridge; a grandson, Chase Marek; a granddaughter, Crystal O'Donnell a brother, Mike Marek; along with his extended family. A memorial gathering and celebration of his life will be held 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at the American Legion Post #789, West St., Carthage. Burial will be in Black River Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. Online condolences may be made at www.lundyfuneralhome.com.
